..."We'll arrest violators as means of enforcement"


The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) on Tuesday begins massive enlightenment campaign to commercial transport operators on dreaded Covid-19 (coronavirus) global health threat and the subsequent social restriction orders imposed by governments at all levels.

Corps Commander / CEO 'Seni Ogunyemi, speaking in a special interview with some members of the press, hinted that the state traffic outfit began the campaign this morning against the backdrop of astronomical spread of the dreaded disease, adding that transportation system could be very susceptible to the spread.

According to Ogunyemi, it is now mandatory for each taxis cab to carry not more than three passengers with the maximum of two at back, while tricycles (Marwa) should carry a maximum of two passengers at ago.
He said commercial motorcycle (Okada) each is limited to only one passenger and the rider must use a nose mask.

"Buses are limited to only two passengers per each role as against the usual four, while standing, squatting, or hanging is not allowed at all".

The TRACE boss advised all unions at inter- or intra- state to embark on subjecting drivers, conductors as well as passengers to temperature check and ensure any anomaly is duly reported immediately to appropriate authorities before embarking on any trip.

The campaign in TRACE Command 4 Ado-Odo/Ota kicked off at about 7 a.m. with the Area Commander, Ajibade Adekunle leading the campaign team, ably assisted by Commanders Victoria Olaoke, Salau Hamed and others to Tollgate, Sango Under-bridge and Oju-Ore.

Drivers and conductors should also wear hand gloves and nose masks during duration of trips, the Corps commander insisted.

"These measures apply to all vehicles irrespective of ownership or use either for commercial or private or companies.

"Indeed, it is advisable that windows of vehicles are wound down to allow free air circulation when in use with minimal use of air-conditioned system, unless where it becomes absolutely inevitable", the Corps Commander said, stressing, "COFID -19 is a ranging pandemic that we cannot take any chance".
