2018 TMNEWS CONFERMENT OF HONOUR AND AWARDS is to focus greatly in honouring, rewarding and celebrating excellence, particularly on individual and corporate bodies, whose philosophies are geared towards improving the lots of humanity in which Rt Hon Kabiru Adjoto has been identified for Most Inspiring Speaker of the Year.
Distinguished Rt.
Hon Kabiru Adjoto was born on January 2nd,1972 into the Adjoto Royal family of Ikakumoh in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State.
He attended Ukilekpe Primary School, Lampese from 1977 to 1982 and had his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Koton Karfi, Kogi State from 1983 to 1987. He thereafter proceeded to the Prestigious Usman Dan Fodio University where he bagged a Bachelor's Degree in Geography in 1995.
In 2007, he ventured into the political arena with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and contested election to represent Akoko-Edo Constituency 1 at the Edo State House of Assembly.
The monumental rigging that took place during the elections prevented him from assuming his seat in the Assembly until he got a favourable court judgement that ordered a rerun which he eventually won in 2009.
He also secured a reelection to the Edo State House of Assembly in 2011 and he is currently a third term legislator haven secured another landmark victory in 2015 general election. For the avoidance of doubt, this is an achievement as Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto is the first legislator to have been elected three times to the Edo State House of Assembly from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
He is a consummate lawmaker and in his three times in Edo Assembly he has made remarkable impact towards enthroning good governance, accountability and development in Edo State.
He has served in several Committees of the House including:
*Chairman, House Committee on Youths, Sports and Information.
*Chairman, House Committee on Health.
*Chairman, House Committee on Works.
He was selected as the Deputy Chief Whip of Edo State House of Assembly following the inauguration of the six Assembly in 2015 and later as Chief Whip, a position he held with extraordinary candor until his popular election to the position of Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly on 14th August, 2017. The first Speaker ever produced from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Since emerging as the Speaker of the Assembly, he has brought a new vigour, activism and dynamic leadership to the House. His emergence has also brought a fresh positive vista in the cordial relationship that currently exists between the legislative and executive arms of the government which is needed for the smooth development of the State. In the few months of his leadership of the House ,sanity has been brought to the attitude of staff to work through his "earn your salary campaign". This has engendered improved productivity in the administrative set up of the Assembly as well as helping to foster a dynamic and convivial atmosphere in the legislative arm of government.
The pragmatic reforms of Rt Hon. Kabiru Adjoto in formulating 21st Century legislative framework has yielded fruits as independent researchers like 'Enough is Enough(EiE) Nigeria' recently affirmed that Edo Assembly has outshined 35 States Assembly on various parameters of open legislature.
His Humanitarian disposition is also unparalleled as demonstrated by his unabated donation of medical supplies and consumables to inmates in Benin prisons. He has also attracted a lot of democratic dividends to the good people of Akoko-Edo, his immediate constituency.
