The Operatives of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) on Tuesday were out at Lagos/Ogun borders to monitor and enforce restriction order imposed by the Federal Government to curtail spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

President Muhammadu Buhari has earlier announced a 14 day lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states starting

Areas visited by our correspondents where TRACE operatives monitored include, Ado-Odo/Ota, Sango, Lagos/OtaToll gate, Agbara/Lagos Badagry Expressway, Ikorodu/Epe, Mowe/Ibafo, Ojodu, Ikorodu Epe.

Speaking on phone with pressmen, the TRACE Corps Commander/CEO, ‘Seni Ogunyemi stressed the importance of the need to monitor the border-towns against the Friday kick off of the lockdown in the state.

According to the TRACE boss, since transportation system is very important and could be very susceptible to the spread of COVID-19, the agency deems it necessary to properly monitor “various routes linking our border towns which could be used by people moving from one state to another”, having been blocked from major roads linking the two states.

“We need to be pro-active and cannot wait till Friday kick-off of the lockdown before we start to enforce it and monitor the influx of people from our neighbouring state. Having been blocked from major roads, people may tend to use other routes and this must be discouraged.

"It’s not as if we are too hard on people, we just joined other security sister’s agencies who were also there to enforce the restriction orders of the government. But I can assure you that strict restriction would not be compromised with on Friday”, Ogunyemi said.

from 11pm Monday 31st March but Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, later in the day also announced shifting commencement of the lockdown to Friday, April 3, saying that he had consulted with the presidency for the shift, as residents who are not on payroll needed to be given some days to prepare.
