The Kaduna South Local Government area of the State held an
all Stakeholders Forum at the prestigious Banquet Hall of the renowned Arewa
House in Kaduna.
The excess of the event was to present awards of honour to its
prominent citizens and residents in recognition of their contributions towards
the growth and pride of their noble Local Government in the Centre of Learning.
According to the Police Zone2 Onikan Lagos Public Relations
Officer, DSP Hauwa who witnessed the historical event reported that the
prominent citizens that deservedly received the Award of Honour is the Assistant Inspector General of
Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Ahmed
Iliyasu among his peers
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu psc+, who has been noted as Lion in fighting
criminals and conferred LION OF GATEWAY (when he was serving as the
Commissioner of Police in Ogun State) by a stable media professional, TMnews
Magazine in 2017 and 2019 as Best Commissioner in Community Policing, has been
clarified as not just a Lion but a protective one.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu was born on May 27, 1961 in Tudun Wada in
Kaduna State, started his elementary education in Local Education Authority
(LEA) Primary School, Faki Road, Tudun Wada between 1970 and 1976. He
thereafter, proceeded to Rimi College, Kaduna in 1976 and passed out in 1981.
In 1981, he gained admission into the School of Basic Studies,
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and finished up in 1982 and thereafter, proceeded
for his degree in Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto. He had his youth service
between 1985 and 1986.
Against the backdrop of un-articulate mission or reasons for
being in a profession, which studies show is chiefly the cause of failures
identified with some professionals in virtually all fields, it is instructive
to state that Ahmed Iliyasu, the Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG, knew what he wanted
when he chose a career in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1988, and clearly
defined his mission as service to humanity with utmost humility and integrity,
not leaving out upholding the rights of the people and rule of law.
Ever since then, this philosophy of his has continually guided
his steps and made him a shining star amongst his peer and contemporaries, both
in the police force and the civil society.
An erudite scholar and a witty administrator par excellence,
Iliyasu, in the course of his calling, is noted for his uprightness and
commitment to duty so much that everywhere he served, locally and
internationally, he ensured his two feet were on the ground, which earned him
many laurels.
Between 1988 and 1989, he was in the Nigeria Police Academy
Annex, Kaduna for Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) course. On
completion of his Cadet ASP course, Iliyasu was posted to Kaduna State Police
Command, where he served in various capacities as Administrative Officer (A/O)
in Gabasawa Division;2i/c to the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Kachia
Division; Officer in charge of General Investigation, State Criminal
Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID)
Between 1995 and 1996, as a Chief Investigation Officer at the
United Nations Verification Mission III headquarters in Luanda, Angola, Iliyasu
investigated a serious case of international nature which led to the arrest of
a syndicate that specialized in the stealing of UN vehicles and the subsequent
recovery of some of the stolen vehicles as well as arms and ammunition. He was,
upon that feat, appreciated with a letter of commendation by the UN police
commissioner. Police College, Kaduna (PCK) as officer in charge of Basic
Training Wing, 1996-2000.
He served in Gombe State Police Command as Divisional Police
Officer (DPO), Gombe Central in 2000-2001; State Criminal Investigation and
Intelligence Bureau as 2i/c, in 2001-2004; Divisional Police Officer (DPO),
Kaltungo Division between 2004 and 2005; DPO, Utako ‘B’ Division, FCT
(2005-2006); Nigeria Police Command, Kano as Professional Studies (2006-2007).
In the same vein, while serving as Area Commander, Sokoto Metro
between 2007 and 2012, he injected a new blood into the operations of the
command, which strengthened the workforce, by establishing and reviving the
ever strong and vibrant Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC). This
achievement was not left unnoticed, as he got a letter of commendation for
that.
As a Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Fraud Section,
Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), Abuja between
2012 and 2014, he smashed many notorious armed robbery gangs and recovered
various stolen properties, including vehicles, even as fraudsters were trailed
and nabbed in Kaduna, Gombe, Sokoto and Utako in the Federal Capital Territory
(FCT); 2i/c, Ports n, Western Command, Lagos (2014-2016) and Police Staff
College, Jos, as coordinator of courses. There is no doubting the fact that
Ogun State is lucky to have AIG Ahmed Iliyasu as the state Commissioner of
Police then.
In 2019, he was transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja as CP Provost before posted to Kano as Commissioner incharge of the state. It was same year he got promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG and then transferred to the Police Zonal Headquarters, Zone 2 Onikan Lagos as AIG incharge of the Zone.

A highly professional, thoroughbred, dedicated and committed
crime buster, Iliyasu has, within his few months of stewardship, written his
name in gold, having tremendously shaken off the state from the shackles of
criminals.
His slogan has always been, "Lagos and Ogun state is not a
place for criminals to hibernate".
He is a recipient of multiple awards ranging from governmental
to non-governmental organizations. For example, on October 5, 2017, the
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ogun State, Dr. Olumide Ayeni,
in a commendation letter to the police boss, titled "Congratulations, Well
done and Thank You", the legal luminary said, "On behalf of the
Official Bar, the Ministry of Justice of the government of Ogun State and
myself, I write to place on record our deep appreciation to the Nigeria Police
Force, Ogun State Command in general and your good self in particular, for your
uncommon commitment to duty.
"We are fortunate to have you at the helm of a critical sub
sector in Law, Order and Justice in Ogun State. May the Lord God continually
uphold you in all you do", the letter read.
Among the numerous awards; AIGP Ahmed Iliyasu psc+ was also

Policing amongst his peers by TMnews Magazine
